ELAC
Winship Middle School's English Learner Advisory Committee (ELAC) is a team of staff and parents who provides the following responsibilities:
- Advises the principal, school staff, and school site council of the needs of English Learners, including instructional and support needs
- Advises the principal, school staff, and school site council on the development of the school plan and budget. The school site council, with input from the ELAC, ultimately recommends the final school’s plan and budget for submission to the Board of Education who approves the plan.
- Reviews the results of the completed ELPAC and advises the principal and staff on any program changes that result from this review.
- Advises and assists the principal in conducting the district/school’s needs assessment. Reviews findings and advises the school principal and staff of any program modifications.
- Advises the principal on ways to make parents aware of the importance of regular school attendance.
- Elects a representative to the District English Learner Advisory Committee (DELAC). Sends to and receives information from the DELAC about various district and school programs/requirements.
- Assists in developing training materials and participate in training opportunities provided by the school and the district.
Every two years, an English Learner Advisory Committee may elect to have the school site council or other advisory committee serve as the site leadership body for the English learner program. If this occurs, the school site council or other advisory committee will assume the responsibilities identified above.
